PRACTICAL FIELD NOTES
Learn the business behind the hunt.
Reselling is part curiosity, part research and part repeatable process. These guides are designed to help you make better decisions, whether you’re considering your first thrift purchase or improving an established listing workflow.

Start with these fundamentals
Research before buying
Use recently sold comparable items—not just current asking prices. Compare model, condition, completeness and shipping costs. Estimate how quickly an item may sell.
Sell what you can describe accurately
Photograph the actual item, show defects, identify exact variants and distinguish tested from untested. Better information builds buyer confidence.
Understand your real profit
A sale price isn’t take-home profit. Consider cost of goods, platform fees, postage, packing supplies and returns. Leave room for time and risk.
Build a retrieval system
Give each listed item a unique ID and storage location. The easiest workflow is the one you can repeat across hundreds of miscellaneous items.
A quick sourcing checklist
Before you purchase: confirm the maker and exact model; check defects and missing accessories; research recent sold comps; estimate marketplace costs and shipping; look at competition; check platform restrictions; and set a maximum buy price you’re comfortable with.
After you purchase: record what you spent, photograph markings and condition, assign a storage location, describe testing honestly and package securely.
